At Grace Church we take seriously the vocation to be the `hands of Christ’ as both St. Benedict and St. Theresa reminded the faithful. This ministry takes place in a variety of forms. Parishioners are active in volunteer efforts throughout the community serving in places like the Nyack Center, the YMCA and the Rotary Club.

In addition, the Grace Thrift Shop sells second hand clothing and other consignment articles and generates about $60,000 a year which is given in charitable donations to various community groups. For information on volunteering or donating items contact the thrift shop at 845-358-7488.

Midnight Run is a hands-on ministry sponsored by the Social Ministry Commission to help feed the homeless in New York City. Parishioners of all ages bring food and gather for about an hour at 10:00AM on the second Saturday of each month to make 130 to 200 bag lunches, which are then taken to the Midnight Run, Inc. headquarters in Dobbs Ferry. At midnight that night another group delivers the meals to the homeless at subway stations, steps of churches, parks, Grand Central Station, Port Authority, etc. The homeless themselves originally started Midnight Run in Westchester County. Now a consortium of more than 150 churches, synagogues and schools in the metropolitan area are contributing to this endeavor to feed the homeless. Using vans provided by Midnight Run, Inc., these organizations go into the city three or four times a week to deliver some 2,000 to 2,500 meals. Parishioners who would like to contribute to this ministry can sign up each month at church or call the office. To be automatically notified for each Midnight Run, send an email to bmiesch@hotmail.com and you will be put on the email notification list

Twenty-nine Twelve-Step and recovery groups meet at Grace Church throughout the week and this congregation is proud to be the host to one of the oldest AA groups in the nation. Other allied Twelve Step groups receive similar hospitality at Grace Church.

Throughout the year many special congregational mission efforts are undertaken. Several times a year, food drives are organized by the Junior and Senior Youth Groups to support Rockland County’s People to People food pantries. The parish also has an ongoing interest in the County’s Habitat for Humanity outreach and this past year presented them with the largest single donation made to the organization. A force of twenty volunteers have worked to help complete Habitat’s newest project this winter.
