Church School at Grace Church is “almost back” in session!
As we are sure everyone understands, we will be doing things a bit differently for Church School this season. We kick off our new Church School time from 9:15-9:45 on October 4th with a special blessing of the animals for kids and their parents. We will set up a socially distanced “walk by” the church for a special animal blessing by Father Owen from 9:15-9:45. We ask that everyone wear a mask and we will have distanced markers along First Avenue starting at Jefferson Street and leading up to the front of the church. We will hand out information about Church School, how to registered for our limited outdoor classes, Zoom classes as well as the weekly “Blessing Bags” that we plan to deliver to each Church School Student’s home each week for kids who can’t make the in-person classes.
Starting October 11th we will be doing in-person outdoor “under the tents” classes for 16 church school students in Memorial Garden. We know that kids are in “virtual class” overload these days so we thought we could offer an outdoor in person class that will also be on Zoom for anyone who won’t be there in person.
These outdoor classes will be broken up in to two groups each consisting of eight kids who will sit in chairs six feet apart from each other. These two groups will be broken up by ages PK-3rd grade & 4th Grade - Middle School (we will be flexible when assigning the 4th graders since some of them may want to be with the younger kids). The tent normally holds 30 people and we are also requiring that everyone wear a mask. The classes would go from 9:15-9:45 since the services are now at 8 & 10am and they will be by reservation only.
If you want to register your child for the class on Sunday, October 11th, please fill out the below information. If the class is full, we will reach out to you to let you know but if you do not hear from us, assume that your child IS registered for that class.
NOTE: All children who attend in person classes need to be COVID symptom free and fever free and can not have been exposed to anyone with COVID in the past 30 days.
HOW THE CLASS WORKS:
Class runs from 9:15-9:45 every Sunday and only registered kids can attend.
From 9:10-9:15 am, there will be a teacher greeting your registered child at the front of the church so you can drop them off (we are asking that no parents attend or stay near the class). Each student will have an assigned seat under the tent that is 6ft apart from the next seat. Everything they need for that class will be on their seat and it will be sanitized before they arrive. They will need to stay seated for 30 minutes and your child will be required to wear their mask the entire time that they are there.
At 9:45, we will ask that the parent pick up their child from either drop off or outside of the tent.
You know your child best and if they can't sit for 30 minutes, we ask that you not send them to class. We also ask that you make sure you child uses their home bathroom before they leave for church since we don't have enough teachers to take your child to the bathroom while they are there. All classes will be streamed live via ZOOM for children who can not or don't want to attend the class.
Anyone in church school must complete a Church School Registration form so that we have appropriate emergency contact information on hand.
Senior Youth Group
The very active senior youth group for high school students meets regularly at 6:30pm on Sunday evenings in the Fenton Room at Grace Church. The group works on team-building activities, focusing on topics related to spiritual growth and community service.
Several senior youth group highlights include a whitewater rafting trip down the Lehigh River, a tour of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC, a hike to Buttermilk Falls, and the Grace Church “Haunted House” fundraiser.
Community service projects include distributing meals to the homeless in New York City with the Midnight Run program, hosting dinner for the Helping Hands program for the homeless and the important Church Youth Service Mission Trip, which in past years has included trips to Louisiana, West Virginia, Montana, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic.
